About the market
Kenya is a Tier 3 country in our model and one of East Africa's main digital hubs, with Nairobi hosting many tech companies and regional offices. Mobile money, led by M-Pesa, is part of everyday life, which makes Kenyans comfortable with mobile payments and gives fintech and telecom advertisers a natural role. Banks, betting companies, consumer goods, e-commerce, education and mobile lending brands also buy, and betting and loan advertising is regulated, so check network and local rules before relying on those categories. Rates per impression are low by international standards, but the young, English-speaking audience is attractive to regional and global campaigns. Seasonal peaks come at Christmas, Easter, Black Friday and the start of school terms.
Android dominates, mostly on affordable phones, with iPhones a small premium group. English and Swahili are both official languages, and many people mix them, with Sheng, an urban slang, common among younger users, so simple English or Swahili content can both work. The Data Protection Act, overseen by the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, governs personal data, so keep consent and privacy notices in order and check whether you need to register. Data costs matter, so light pages and small apps lose fewer users. Football, including strong interest in the English Premier League, athletics, music, news, jobs and education content draw large audiences, and farming and small business topics have a loyal following.

Getting paid from Kenya
Kenyan publishers commonly receive network payments by international transfer into a bank account, either converted to shillings or held in a foreign currency account where the bank offers one. M-Pesa is hugely popular for everyday payments but is rarely a direct payout option from ad networks. Payment providers with dollar receiving details are used by some publishers. Fees and options vary by bank, so check each network's payment settings and ask your bank about incoming transfer charges.
All figures come from our benchmark tables: Android eCPMs by tier, category or niche multipliers, modelled fill and the iOS multiplier. They are estimates for planning, not quotes.
